Romantic Weekend Getaway at the Omni Scottsdale Resort & Spa at Montelucia

On a frigid -20 degree evening my husband sheepishly asks me, “Have you ever wanted to go to Spain?”  “Have you ever met me?”  I reply jokingly.   My family and I are all huddled around our woodstove questioning why we decided not to go on a winter getaway after all.  He slides his phone over to me and asks, “Well how about Spain in Arizona?”  “Huh?” I look at him confused.  I am racking my brain because I am a travel agent after all.  Why don’t I know what he is talking about?  I begin scrolling through the pictures on his phone and it all becomes clear.  I am looking at the incredibly beautiful, five-star Omni Scottsdale Resort and Spa at Montelucia.  This luxury resort has been designed to capture the look and feel of the Andalusia region of Spain, but with a much shorter travel time to get there.  We were about to celebrate our 18th anniversary and this looked like the perfect place for a romantic getaway weekend.  From the moment we arrived, we knew we had made the right decision.  The resort is more beautiful in real life than we had imagined, and everyone we met there was incredibly hospitable and friendly.  We were a little early for check in, so the bellman took care of our bags while we headed to Taqueria Centro for margaritas and their Three Amigos appetizer.  The appetizer is made up of Salsa, Queso Dip, Guacamole and fresh tortilla chips (all gluten free).  I knew as soon as I tasted it that I would need to have this exact same meal at least one more time while we were there.

Pleasantly sated, the front desk called us to let us know that our room was ready.  We headed to the front desk and the bellman drove us in one of the properties golf carts to show us our room.  We had reserved a Camelback Mountain View room and it was gorgeous and spacious.  The bathroom was a great size as well with a very large walk in shower that would be easily accessible if needed, as well as a large tub perfect for soaking in.  The resort even surprised us with a bottle of champagne and chocolate covered strawberries!!

A lovely surprise gift from the Omni

We visited the resort in February and it was very quiet which was really nice.    While this is not an adults only resort, we didn’t really see many kids around.  I suppose there may be more kids over school breaks.  There is a lovely adults only pool on the property if you did need more peace and quiet.

That night we decided to eat at Prado.  I had been eyeing the Paella on the menu before we visited the resort and I was very excited to try it!  They offer 3 kinds of paella, all gluten free, which made this gluten free girl so happy!!  While there, I tried 2 of the Paellas, on different nights of course.  This girls can eat, but maybe not that much!!  Haha!! Anyway, the first night I tried the Prado Paella and my husband tried the Paella a la Valenciana.  This is going to be one of the those meals that I will dream about until I get to eat it again.  The Prado Paella has lobster tail, scallops, langostino, chorizo, shrimp and forbidden rice.  My mouth is seriously watering just thinking about it right now!  I will admit it is pricey, but soooo worth it!!  My husband’s Paella had chorizo, chicken, seafood, and saffron rice and was absolutely incredible as well!

While there we of course had so spend the day at Joya Spa.  We had booked a couple’s massage for the afternoon, but had access to the spa facilities for the whole day, which we definitely took advantage of.  The steam rooms and saunas are not co-ed, but there is a co-ed area for relaxing as well as the Joya Terrace.  The terrace has a beautiful pool overlooking Camelback Mountain and offers a healthy menu.  I highly recommend you visit Joya Spa.  We didn’t want to leave!!

The resort also offers breakfast at Prado on Saturdays and Sundays called The Art of Breakfast, which we were more than happy to try.  The Art of Breakfast has a wide variety of delicious Spain inspired as well as the normal American breakfast fare.  The chef offered us made-to-order omelets.  I had him fill mine with lots of veggies and chorizo…delish!  There is even a gluten free station for breads and muffins with a dedicated gluten free toaster which was very thoughtful!  And of course if you are exploring breakfast as an art form, what better way to wash it down than with a pineapple mimosa!  Also, if you are as much of a Bloody Mary fan as my husband is, then you will be happy to know that on Sundays Taqueria Centro has a build-your-own Bloody Mary bar.

While we were there it seemed that this resort especially caters to couples, women on a girl’s spa weekend, weddings, and business conferences.  We left the resort feeling so relaxed and rejuvenated.  We were ready to head back to real life until the next time that we can sneak in a little getaway to Arizona’s “Spain”.  If you are looking for a luxurious getaway with incredible service, comfortable rooms, and amazing food, I highly recommend that you book a stay at Omni Scottsdale Resort & Spa at Montelucia as soon as possible!!  Feel free to contact me for help booking or to answer any questions you may have about this fantastic resort.
